Colombian climber Nairo Quintana (Movistar) won the 17th stage of the Tour de France alone, marked by the retreat of Britain's Chris Froome on Wednesday at the Col du Portet.

Welshman Geraint Thomas, third in the stage, consolidated his yellow jersey after the second of three Pyrenean stages, four days before the finish in Paris.

At an altitude of 2215 meters, Quintana has preceded by 28 seconds the Irish Dan Martin and 47 seconds the yellow jersey. The Colombian, second in the Tour twice (2013 and 2015), had not won any more stages since 2013.

In the general clbadification, Froome left the second place to the Dutchman Tom Dumoulin, now clocked at 1 min 59 Dry of Thomas

The quadruple winner of the Tour dropped at 1800 meters from the line. Expected by his Colombian team-mate Egan Bernal, he gave Thomas about 50 seconds.

Romain Bardet also faltered in the final climb, 6 kilometers from the summit. The Frenchman finished about a minute behind Froome

The stage, scooped up over 65 kilometers with three climbs, gave rise to a traditional scenario despite an innovative departure, F1 grid departure.

Estonian Tanel Kangert initiated a breakaway that he continued to 8.5 kilometers from the finish.

Kangert was accompanied for a long time by the Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe, who almost badured his polka-dot jersey of the best climber.

In the group of favorites, the teams of Bardet and Quintana took things in hand in the pbad of Azet-Val Louron, without destabilizing the Sky team. But everything was played in the final climb of 16 kilometers, clbadified out of category (8.7% average slope) and unpublished on the Tour.

Quintana emerged on the first ramps of Portet. Moments later, the Slovenian Primoz Roglic started, followed immediately by Froome. But Dumoulin brought back the small group including Thomas and Bardet.

At the front, Quintana (28 years) went to his second stage success in the Tour, five years after his victory at Semnoz (Haute -Savoie).

Thursday, the 18th stage returns to the plain between Trie-sur-Baïse and Pau (171 km), before the last pbades scheduled for Friday.
