Considered by many to be one of the most enjoyable Belgian provinces to live on because of its flourishing economy and enviable living environment. all, however, Walloon Brabant is not spared by crime. Witness the recent report of the federal police that brings together all the criminal facts identified last year in the Young Province.
This report indicates that no less than 25,395 criminal offenses were perpetrated last year in Walloon Brabant . Eighty-seven a day: shoplifting, racketeering, armed robbery and badault.

But criminal offenses against the physical integrity of a person are also very important in our province, even if we are far from the figures of major cities like Brussels. Thus, no less than 2,318 cases were opened for badault last year. 18 of which were described as attempted murder or murder.
Two resulted in a fatal outcome. One in Lasne and the other in Waterloo. In this second case, it was a resident of the rue du Verseau who had alerted the police because he had not heard from his neighbor for a few days. Arrived on the spot, the police had made the macabre discovery. The lifeless body of Jacques Piret, born in 1949, had been found in a pool of blood. A few meters away, they found the body of his son Frédéric, born in 1976, who had killed himself after killing his father.
