An investigation was opened in Cameroon after the publication on the social networks of a video turned viral, showing armed men, presumed military Cameroon, executing two women and their children, accused of being Nigerian jihadist group Boko Haram complains. In a statement to the press, government spokesman Issa Tchiroma Bakary denounced Wednesday night a "fake news", describing this video as "horrible special effects". "Nevertheless (…), the head of state (Paul Biya) has ordered the opening of an investigation in accordance with the practices in the matter," he added. In the video, published Tuesday and seen thousands of times on social networks, we see men wearing military uniforms similar to those of some units of the Cameroonian army run two women and their two children on their knees. Before executing them, these men describe them, in French, as "BH" (for Boko Haram), stating that the victims were captured during an badault on the Nigerian jihadists. It was not possible to date or independently authenticate this video on Wednesday night. Two security sources in Cameroon told AFP, however, that the video could have been filmed in a mountainous area of the Far North region of Cameroon, bordering some Nigerian bastions of Boko Haram. The Cameroonian army is engaged to counter the frequent incursions of fighters of the jihadist group. The broadcast of this very violent video provoked controversy and indignation on social networks. The Cameroonian army is regularly accused by NGOs of perpetrating abuses against people suspected of belonging to the Boko Haram group, which it has always denied. (Belga)
