"In the service of France", season 2
Thursday, July 5, at 20:55 on Arte
Two and a half years after their first – and disastrously funny – missions on Arte, very special agents created by Jean-François Halin (former author of the Guignols and scriptwriter of the two OSS 117 ) resume their service, more fit than ever.
Arrogance lined with incompetence, Kafkaesque administration and endless imbroglios stories of doubly stamped forms or regulatory pajamas … we find in this new salvo of twelve episodes the absurd humor that had made the flavor of the first season but relieved of the formal stylization that sometimes lead the pace.
L adventure and romance are the key words of a season that multiplies the winks: hectic action scenes inspired by The man from Rio crossing the Sahara way Tintin in The crab with golden claws love ballet worthy of a film by Jacques Demy or dysfunction of electrical appliances in a Moscow apartment reminiscent of modernity broken Jacques Tati …

As for the novice André Merleaux, he has become an accomplished agent, much more competent than his colleagues, but he acts in the shadows on his own account: his revenge against Colonel Mercaillon, former collaborator turned director of the "Service" , and her quest to find the trace of her parents.
The characters gain in depth and, as a foretaste of the coming female emancipation, the h Eroïnes are gaining momentum: Irene, Mercaillon's submissive wife, sends out her bourgeois straitjacket and Marie-Jo, the devoted secretary, takes her brains and proves far more clever than her male colleagues. A jubilant revenge!
