Washington "ordered the departure of non-essential personnel and asks US citizens to reconsider their trips to Nicaragua in light of "Crimes, civil disruption and limited availability of medical care", according to a statement posted on his official website.
"Heavily armed, plainclothes and government-controlled militia (…) operate in a large part of the country, including Managua ", warns the embbady.
The government is planning a march for Saturday. The opposition has announced a protest on Thursday 12 July and a general strike on Friday 13 to demand early elections or the departure of President Daniel Ortega, a 72-year-old former guerrilla leader since 2007 after a first term in office. 1979 to 1990.
