Dour: the equipment left by the campers will have a second life

The After Festival Recup badociation collected some 12 m² of tents, sleeping mats and sleeping bags

On Monday, the festival-goers who had pitched their tents on the Dour wind turbines site packed up their luggage. Some have conscientiously gathered their belongings, others have not been overly busy, leaving behind tents, mattresses or sleeping bags.

So much camping equipment to which the badociation After Festival Recup will try to give a second life. On Monday afternoon, volunteers crisscrossed the campsite to collect everything that could still be used. "The recovery went pretty well. We got to work on Monday around noon, when the campers left the site. We gathered the material and around 18 hours, we were able to load, "says Renaud Jean-Louis, initiator of the project.

For the occasion, a truck and a truck made available by the Intys company (in addition to a team of six employees, volunteers after their hours) were very necessary. In fact, some 12m³ of material has been harvested. "It's mostly tent, mattress and sleeping bags. These will be washed and cleaned before being dispatched to various storage locations. »

In fine, it is the badociations active with the underprivileged public, the homeless or even the migrants, who will be in charge of the distribution. "Last year we were present at Werchter. This year, we are collaborating with Dour, Tomorrowland and Esperanzah, always with all the required authorizations. To come to Dour was not difficult because the festival has a team "sustainable development", demanding that the badociations can come to collect the material left on the spot.

Renaud Jean-Louis insists however: "some of what remains on the site can be reused but we encourage festival-goers to leave with their equipment to avoid waste. Anything that can not be taken back must be cremated. Economically and ecologically speaking, it is clearly not advantageous. Let's hope the message goes for future editions.
