Rescuers had to help two 8- and 9-year-old children on Koksijde beach in the late afternoon on Monday. They were playing in the sand when they were washed away by the waves. The tide could be questioned. They could not reach the shore anymore. Both children were hospitalized. The state of health of one of them is considered worrying. The two children were bathing, however, in a supervised area. Three rescuers also quickly intervened.
Two children were rescued from the sea on Monday in Koksijde, police said. The two boys aged 8 and 9 are from Lessines, Hainaut. Their condition is not critical but they were taken to the intensive care unit.
The incident occurred around 6 pm in a supervised bathing area in central Koksijde. Several children were playing on a sandbar when they were surprised by a wave. Two boys did not manage to reach the sand by themselves, hence the intervention of the rescuers. The 8 year old boy quickly regained his senses, but the 9 year old had to be revived. Both were taken to the hospital where they will spend the night in intensive care because they have water in their lungs. Their life is not in danger, however.
