As pollution standards are tightening more and more every month, all manufacturers are working to reduce the polluting emissions of their engines. While some have opted for downsizing for many years, some brands, such as Ferrari, continued to offer V12 and V8. With the recent arrival of turbos on the 488, the prancing horse brand could not stop there. Indeed, a patent was filed by Ferrari, concerning an electrified four-cylinder block.
To see the first plans, a turbine was placed at the exhaust. The latter thus provides electricity to an electrical circuit, which itself feeds a compressor. Thanks to this, the engine would be able to deliver a huge power, while decreasing its polluting emissions.
It remains to know on which model we will find this new block.
