Agriculture. "36 concrete solutions" to reduce the use of pesticides

The agricultural world has just unveiled its first solutions to reduce the use of pesticides, including glyphosate. Farmers, however, do not want to pay for the cost of pesticide reduction alone. They are waiting for the support of the public authorities

Faced with growing concern, the agricultural world is mobilizing to reduce the use of pesticides. Forty or so agricultural organizations led by the FNSEA, the majority union, presented their "solution contract" on Wednesday. With, already, "36 concrete solutions" likely to be applied

"We will succeed if the deployment is mbadive, if it is not only the pioneers but all the farmers who deploy these solutions. It is a pledge of result ", underlined the president of the FNSEA Christiane Lambert during a press conference.

Solutions to reduce the glyphosate

The thirty-six solutions unveiled this Wednesday allow fight against diseases or pests for potatoes, lavender, basil or sunflower. Each sheet estimates the costs and the gains for the farmers, but also the brakes to be lifted, the conditions of success and the actors to mobilize.

The objective is to meet the expectations expressed by the company while guaranteeing the profitability and the competitiveness of farms. "Concerning the reduction of glyphosate, our #contratsolutions has the identity of mechanical solutions on the short term and combinatorial solutions on the long term. We privileged a pragmatic, methodical and transversal approach ", specifies the site of the FNSEA.

A support expected from the public authorities

The agricultural world is asking for the support of the public authorities to implement implement its "solution contract". "To play the game, you have to be two. All this work is our contribution to what the government calls the responsibility of the actors. We expect the same commitment of the public authorities ", underlined Mrs. Lambert.

It is in November 2017 that the FNSEA unveiled its intention to build a" contract of solutions "in order to reduce the use of the pesticides in agriculture. An ambitious project since it proposes to go beyond the Ecophyto 2 plan launched by the former Minister of Agriculture, Stéphane Le Foll. This plan calls for a reduction in their use of 25% by 2020 and 50% by 2025.
