Ant-Man and the Wasp: "A film both bigger … and smaller!" – News Movie

Three years after signing Ant-Man, the American Peyton Reed is back in the Marvel galaxy at the command of the sequel, Ant-Man and Wasp. At the microphone of AlloCiné, he enthusiastically evokes this super-heroic adventure, which is released this Wednesday in hexagonal cinemas.

AlloCiné: Is this sequel bigger or more … small than the first film "Ant- Man "?

Peyton Reed : Both! Ant-Man and Wasp is both bigger and smaller than the first film. The idea was to take back Dr. Pym's particle technology and use it not only on the characters but also on vehicles, buildings, and have fun with this technology of enlargement and shrinkage. We had for example the idea that the costume of Ant-Man works badly and that Scott Lang remains stuck in different sizes, we found it funny! But we also maintained the scenes of intimacy that already existed in the first film. Because it's really a family story, the story of a father and his daughter. That's why this movie is both bigger and smaller.

With this sequel, did you gain confidence as a director? The first movie was your first blockbuster …

Ant-Man had a lot of special effects and that was a big lesson for me, so yes, I got to Ant-Man and the Wasp knowing better how to integrate the visual effects, and also knowing better how the Marvel system works. It's great because they are very visually dense, but the process is done so that if you want to change something along the way or even late in production, it's possible. It's a very fluid process, which I like very much. For example, they plan additional shooting days from the very beginning. You may not need it, but if it is, they are already there. So I arrived on this shoot knowing better how to integrate all that.

Tell us about the character of the Wasp, which is central to this sequel …

The Wasp is vital in this film. The film is called Ant-Man and the Wasp because it's the story of a collaboration. Will they succeed in working together? Hope Van Dyne is a full-fledged superheroine, and a question crosses her mind: "Do I really need a partner, and if so, does this partner, c Scott Lang? "This is really the dramatic knot of the film. So it was very exciting for me to introduce this heroine for the first time through this film.

Can you finally tell us about the connection of "Ant-Man and Wasp" with the saga "Avengers"

If I say too much about Avengers 4, there are Marvel snipers who are installed everywhere here, ready to come down to me so that I do not reveal anything … Our film is more a film apart , even if we refer to the end of Avengers: Infinity War in our movie, and I think we do it in a way that is specific to the tone of Ant-Man and Wasp. I like our film after Infinity War because both have nothing to do with the tone. This is already what we did with Ant-Man coming out just after the Ultron Era. And I think that's good, that's what people like in the Marvel universe, that movies are totally different experiences, each with its own specific tone.
