Apple Watch still leads connected watch sales

Apple would have sold no less than 3.5 million Apple Watch in the second quarter of 2018.

Apple remains the undisputed leader in the field of connected watches with sales that have increased by 30% in one year, a report from the firm Cbadys tells us

The Apple Watch Series 3, and more specifically the 4G LTE model available in Asia, contributed to this success. The model allowing cellular connectivity facilitates its distribution to certain operators. Apple's efforts in this direction have paid off: In Asia alone, 250,000 Apple Watch have been sold, 60% of which are 4G models.

A nice score that catches up with the 9% drop in sales first quarter. Nevertheless, even if it remains largely in the lead, the Apple Watch sees its market share fall below 40% due to the rise in sales of competing products, including Fitbit and Garmin. Two brands specializing in sports watches that are now able to deliver more than a million watches worldwide, with a wide choice of different models.

It remains to be seen whether the rise of this competition and the arrival of Samsung's next Galaxy Watch may overshadow Series 4, which should be unveiled next September.
