The Ariel Atom, whose origins date back to the late 90s, is typically the kind of craft that only the English dare to produce . The recipe seems simple: a motor, four wheels, a few tubes as chbadis … and not much more!
The model presented to us today is the fourth generation of Atom. Although it looks almost identical to the one it replaces, this car is however completely new. It is based on a new chbadis with larger section tubes and stiffness increases by 15%, and offers more space for its pbadengers.
Always faithful to Honda, the British company now uses the new 2.0 turbo block that equips the latest Civic Type R, in place of the old atmospheric 2.0. The power goes from 245 to 320 hp while the torque is up 75%, with 420 Nm. At the same time, the weight has increased very little with 595 kg announced.
As good as a 911 GT2 RS
As much to say it immediately: in terms of performance, nothing at Lotus or Caterham can compete and even a Ferrari 488 GTB could have trouble keeping up. The 0 to 100 km / h is indeed announced in 2.8 s is the same time as a Porsche 911 GT2 RS, besides the pilot is still sitting at ground level and that the vehicle does not have a windshield.
Finally, while older versions could not put their tires on the road outside the United Kingdom, Ariel hopes to approve this new model in Europe which would therefore make it accessible to French customers. Volunteers?
