Brazilian right-back Danilo injured his ankle during training on Thursday, the day before the Seleçao match against Belgium, and will be unavailable for the rest of the World Cup. That's what the Brazilian Federation (CBF) announced on Thursday.

According to the CBF press release, the player suffers from a ligament injury to the left ankle. The examinations carried out have confirmed that it can not be reinstated before the end of the World Cup. The player, however, will remain with the group in Russia

Danilo, 26, a team-mate of Vincent Kompany in Manchester City, was unlucky in this World Cup. Holder against Switzerland, he had injured his hip during training before the match against Costa Rica and had missed the last two meetings of the group stage and the eighth finals against Mexico. The 29-year-old Corinthians Fagner had replaced him in all three games.

Right-back starter Dani Alves had to withdraw shortly before the World Cup because of a knee injury.
