Brussels will test the use of drones for medical emergencies

The City of Brussels is preparing to take an active part in experimenting with the use of drones for urgent medical badistance, starting with the delivery of defibrillators under critical conditions

This project will take place within the framework of the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) initiative of a European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities which aims to bring together cities, citizens and businesses to accelerate the study of application of this new means of rapid transport.

The mayor of the City of Brussels, Philippe Close (PS), signed Tuesday for this purpose a manifesto of intention together with the Deputy Director of Mobility and Transport at the European Commission, the head of the UAM initiative at Airbus, who heads it, and a representative of Eurocontrol.

Also supported by the Federal Minister of Mobility François Bellot (MR)

In close collaboration with the emergency services in Brussels, the local authorities, the police and the city will begin by defining the feasibility project of "Take Care Emergency. It aims to take advantage of the use of drones to transport defibrillators under critical conditions and to reduce the impact of cardiac arrest when ambulances take too long to intervene.

But Brussels does not count stay here. It is also considering other applications for the new mobility and transport of medical technology products, such as blood and grafts, in critical situations.

Beyond the above mentioned personalities, other authorities and partners have signed and supported the "Manifesto of Intent": the Emergency and SMUR service, the Brussels fire brigade, the Brussels police service, the Federal Ministry of Transport, Belgocontrol, the Belgian Aviation Authority Civil Aviation, European Aviation Safety Agency, Creative Business, Drone Think Do, Emergency Support, SpaceDrone, Moke Matara and Unifly
