China's first driverless bus is born. Out of the production lines of Baidu, the local equivalent of Google, the bus "Apolong" will be marketed next year in China and abroad.

Robin Li, president of the firm, proudly announced the release of a hundred of these stand-alone buses from its King Long manufacturing facility at the annual Baidu AI conference. Failing to market any car without a driver, still testing on Chinese soil, the company deploys its buses throughout the country.

No long trip for this means of transport that can accommodate 14 people, whose goal is to conclude the last kilometer of a course. Apolong also interests outside of borders, Baidu signed with SB Drive to export buses to Japan in 2019 in cities such as Tokyo.

This makes Apolong a level 4 autonomous vehicle, that is, able to move without any human intervention in a limited context and a defined environment. The Xinhua info site says that Apolong is able to perform certain operations without a driver. It can for example avoid obstacles, turn sharply or automatically transfer the pbadengers to another vehicle.
The boss of the firm welcomed the advance of the autonomous vehicle: " 2018 marks the first year marketing for autonomous driving. With the production volume of Apolong, we can really see that autonomous driving is making great progress "he said.
