American comic book artist Stephen Ditko, co-creator of Spiderman and other heroes, died at the age of 90 years old. He was found dead in his apartment in Manhattan on June 29, without the causes of his death being apparent, police said, quoted Saturday by the magazine Hollywood Reporter .

Born in 1927 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Stephen Ditko had worked in the early 1960s alongside Stan Lee, another co-creator of the spider-man character, and future president of Marvel Comics.

It was Dikto who had especially imagined the famous character of Peter Parker and his blue and red suit of Spiderman and his launchers of canvas. He was also co-creator of another character from Marvel, Doctor Strange.

From Marvel to DC Comics then back to Marvel

In 1966, following a quarrel with Stan Lee, he left Marvel for other publishing houses, including DC Comics, for which he created lesser-known characters such as The Creeper, The Question, Blue Beetle or Hawk and Dove. He returned to work for Marvel in 1979.

"Today, the entire Marvel family is saddened by the loss of Steve Ditko. Steve had transformed Marvel's comics and universe, and his legacy will never be forgotten. " Marvel Entertainment President Dan Buckley said in a statement Saturday.

" Reserved and modest, he never sought celebrity " said DC Entertainment President Jim Lee. "In a way, he represented the hidden hero he saw in all of us" .
