The 1810 version of the Microsoft console OS will allow players to enjoy Dolby Vision on Netflix and some Blu-Ray UHD.
Dolby Vision offers well-equipped players (with the 4K TV that goes well) to use dynamic data for every scene in a movie or series, unlike HDR10 (High Dynamic Range) ), which only fits the entire program. Each scene can benefit from specific settings in terms of brightness or contrast for example, if the creators have taken the time to tweak all these adjustments of course.
The format will be available on Xbox One S and Xbox One X to Alpha members of the Xbox Insider program. At first, only Netflix will be compatible, before being followed by the Blu-ray player of the console. Only a handful of titles will be available at launch, just as some TVs are currently capable of offering Dolby Vision (some OLED models from Sony or LG are already on sale). In the future, other compatible platforms like Amazon Prime Video or Vudu could be added.
Last April, Microsoft proposed a refresh of the image at 120 Hz on its consoles, with a quality of image until 1440p. For the moment, the 4K remains confined to 60 Hz but the rapid evolutions in the field should allow to offer an ever more incredible image to the players.
