The Office des étrangers considers that the Congolese opponent Moïse Katumbi Chapwe, a candidate declared to the presidential election of December 23, is, if he is in Belgium, staying illegally, said one of his spokesmen to the Belga agency, confirming information from the French magazine 'Jeune Afrique'. Briefly arrested on June 13 at the Brussels airport for a pbadport issue – presented as "falsified", he contests – as he tried to travel to Moscow for the opening ceremony of the Coupe du football world, he had obtained a 15-day pbad from the Aliens' Office, the time to produce "an official and authentic travel document."

According to a spokesman for the Office, Geert Devulder Mr. Katumbi has still not regularized his situation.

"So far, we have not seen any reaction or step on his part, so we can say that he is currently staying illegally", he said to Belga.

According to 'Jeune Afrique', the pbadport remains for the moment confiscated at the level of the public prosecutor of the king.

The spokesperson of Mr Katumbi, Olivier Kamitatu, indicated to ignore everything an illegal stay. "He is not in Belgium," he told Belga.

M. Katumbi denies having traveled with falsified pbadport and denounces a maneuver of President Joseph Kabila's regime

"Following the Congolese authorities' decision to withdraw semi-biometric pbadports, Mr Katumbi had filed a formal application biometric pbadport at the embbady of the Democratic Republic of Congo in Belgium, "said the office of the opponent in exile. "This request was denied by the Kinshasa regime for no good reason."

The businessman's entourage is therefore challenging the version that a false identity page had been attached to the pbadport, indicating a incorrect profession. He sees, however, in this incident a "continuing relentlessness of power" against the political opponent and a violation of the latter's right to a pbadport.
