While speeding offenses increased by 7.5% on Walloon roads between 2016 and 2017, from 779,623 to 837,885, the Region is continuing to set up its Radar Plan, with the installation of 11 new boxes in risk areas, announced Tuesday the Walloon Minister in charge of Road Safety, Carlo Di Antonio (cdH).

These 11 boxes, in which police zones will install speed meters – measuring devices of speed, note – randomly, will be installed in Libramont, Sainte-Ode, La Louviere (2), Mouscron (5), Genappe and Nivelles. Since March, 31 new boxes including 4 with red lights have been installed in Wallonia and others will follow in the coming months.

" There is no question of surprising the users by these controls but to secure the premises ", the minister recalled.

According to the figures published by the federal police, the offenses relating to speeding have increased by 7.5% between 2016 and 2017 on Walloon roads. The majority – 71% – speeding under 21 km / h over the speed limit are recorded, 21% of the speeding offenses concerning speeding from 21 to 30 km / h and 6% speeding from 31 to 40 km / h. Speeding over 40km / h represents only 2% of all speeding infractions.
