In full European tour, the 63-year-old English singer had to cancel the six concerts he was to give this summer.

In a statement posted on his website, Elvis Costello said he was struggling to recover from surgery last May to treat a malignant tumor.

"I must now accept the fact that it will take longer than I would have liked for me to regain all my strength," he wrote.

As mentioned by Buzzfeed, his doctor had given him good news that he had "rarely, if ever, seen a small cancer but so aggressive to be beaten by a single operation."

The singer, however, says his doctors urged him to cancel the rest of the tour after his last concerts.

"Ask your doctor if you have a doubt and, if necessary, act quickly. It could save your life. Believe me, it's better than playing Russian roulette, "he added.

A figurehead of new wave and post-punk, Elvis Costello made his name on the release of his first album, My Aim Is True published in 1977.

Over the years, he has enjoyed success with titles like Alison, Pump It Up, (What's So Funny 'bout ) Peace, Love, and Understanding? and several other hits.

Prompt recovery, Mr. Costello!
