A violent fire broke out this Sunday evening, around 20h, on a farm in Thulin. The flames and especially the smoke were visible from far away.

The affected farm is that of Mr. Raulent, located on the Rue des Bbades Pâtures in Thulin (Hensies), near the football field.

These are the barns , stables and hangars of the exploitation which blaze. There is no victim. The fire destroyed agricultural machinery and straw but did not injure any persons or animals.

The fire caused a great deal of concern in the area because it was initially thought that it was the Semoulin paper mill which was burning, which could have triggered pollution. It was not so. However, this type of disaster – straw that burns in very dry weather – is difficult to extinguish and the risks of seeing fire spread are not to be neglected; an important mobilization of the relief was thus necessary. The firefighters of Quiévrain were the first alerted. As is the procedure in such circumstances, they used self-pump reinforcements from neighboring barracks. The firefighters of Saint-Ghislain, those of Dour and those of Mons joined their colleagues on the spot.
