After a magnificent trailer at E3 2018 we were looking forward to finally getting our hands on the next game of the license Kingdom Hearts . Thanks to Japan Expo and booth Square Enix it's now done! Even if it's only about twenty minutes of play, it's already enough to get a first idea of the gameplay and performance that can be expected from Kingdom Hearts III . The game will be available on January 29, 2019 on PS4 and Xbox One, 13 years after Kingdoms Hearts II although other games "annexes" have been made in the meantime on various media . This demo of KH3 allows us to have a glimpse of the world " Toys Box ", the universe directly related to the trilogy Toy Story Disney / Pixar.
To leave on a good foundation, remember that KH3 takes place after the events of the game Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance released in 2012, so Sora and her friends are looking for the seven Guardians of Light in order to stop Xehanort
The demo begins with a cinematic of Buzz, Woody and some of their companions who try to escape the heartless while Sora, Dingo and Donald are made their new appearance. The confrontation begins against the various enemies, and what we can immediately notice is how much the fight is fluid . The blows are linked perfectly and the movements are instantaneous even if you were attacking. In addition, you are not limited to Keyblade and spells as you can use techniques that turn your key into another type of weapon (such as the Buzz Lightning Bolt below) or cups that run at full speed over enemies. One can also note the evolution of invocations, now renamed " Links " which allows for example to interact with the environment as Ralph who can lay blocks.
Visually, the game is beautiful very beautiful. No big differences between the cinematics and the game since the same engine is used, but we must recognize that the characters of Toy Story have nothing to envy to their cinematographic version. The visual effects and particles are also much higher than what was previously found in the series Kingdom Hearts .
After some cinematics and a fight in the street, Our heroes are found in the a toy store where a member of the Organization awaits them, which is at the origin of the arrival of heartless people in this world. After this brief meeting, Sora will play Code Gebad and get on board a robot to defeat the bad guys. In this combat mode, Sora can fire laser beams, fly with a jet-pack and hit the enemies with fists. In addition, there are three distinct types of robots which all have a special jurisdiction . It is possible to change the robot by leaving the badpit and taking control of a Mecha already defeated by you.
Regarding history, this demo does not spoil us or teaches us anything . Except perhaps the incipit of the world of Toy Story which is very enticing. On the other hand, it is obvious that the people who played only the two main opus of the saga will be dropped in the history . It is not for nothing that Square Enix has decided to release the remaster versions on PS4 which, in addition to giving a youthful look to the first games, allows to discover the events that take place in other opus as Dream Drop Distance and Birth by Sleep to name a few. You are therefore strongly encouraged to play these games or to read / see summaries of the story on the web before the game's release to understand what is going on.
Expected since years by fans, it's only a matter of months to finally discover Kingdom Hearts III . But one thing is certain, our first impressions while playing the game only confirmed our expectations . Like the first players, the license Kingdom Hearts has grown well, and was able to evolve its gamplay and graphics to compete with the current big productions of the video game. Kingdom Heart III seems more than promising and we look forward to seeing Sora, Donald, Dingo and all the others to follow their adventures between the worlds of Disney .
