A man in his 40s was arrested for violating and then threatening his companion in Verviers on Friday after an argument, the Liège public prosecutor's office said on Saturday morning.

A dispute arose within the couple after that the forty-year-old had remarked to his companion that she did not receive enough income. He would have thrown him a beer before strangling him and threatening him with death in their vervietois home.

The 57-year-old victim was said to have managed to escape and take refuge in his neighbor's home. After contacting the police, she was taken in charge by a doctor who reported her beatings.

The file was put to the instruction

According to him, traces can correspond to the version of the facts of the victim to whom he has granted a two-day incapacity for work. Already known by the courts for multiple acts including domestic violence that occurred in 2011, the suspect was arrested.

He downplayed the facts and was referred to the prosecutor of Liège. The magistrate in charge of the case put the file to the instruction.
