The Belgian driver spoke about the incident that forced him to abandon the Grand Prix.

Stoffel Vandoorne seemed to be able to score points for the fourth time of the season in Formula 1 when a faulty gearbox betrayed him. The McLaren driver retired in the 51st of 70 laps when he was ninth in the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday.

"
A really disappointing race. We had a great start. We gained a few places in the first round. We had very good tire management in the initial phase and a good pace when it counted. We managed to jump a lot of cars during the pit stop. It was a great strategy to get into the points with both cars. We felt comfortable. It was therefore to bring the car back home

                    Vandoorne recounted

"
Unfortunately, we had a technical problem and had to stop the car. This shows that it is a mechanical sport. It's disappointing to finish like this but I think we did everything right. It's a shame not to finish the first part of the season with a few more points
.

F1 drivers now have a few weeks off before resuming at the end of August with the Belgian GP at Spa-Francorchamps. "
I felt good this weekend. I think we showed that we had found the right pace. I can be satisfied with my performance. I look forward to the summer holidays, to relax a little and refresh my mind before returning to Spa for my home race
