Maurane: a posthumous album in the autumn

Good news for fans of Maurane, who died in May at the age of 57. Jacques Brel's cover album, on which she was working, will finally be released in September. His daughter Lou Villafranca, 24, confirmed it in the columns of Parisien . "She wished this album was finished. There are pearls in what she has recorded. His pianist, Philippe de Cock, and I decided to take over the artistic direction. The young woman had listened to several songs in the studio, with her mother, and estimates that there are in fact fourteen exploitable songs, "quality" models, on which we will have to add arrangements.

According to Le Parisien we should find covers of "Do not leave me", "Vesoul", "When we only have love" or "The Song of old lovers", which were worn in the past by the magnetic voice of Jacques Brel. "There are some great things in piano voice," explains Lou Villafranca. We have a lot of work. The idea is to make it as authentic as possible. She wanted to pay tribute to Brel and do something similar to him.

The Album of Renewal

For Maurane, this album represented a lot: it was his return after the serious voice problems that had deeply affected him two years ago, requiring an operation of vocal cords to treat edema. She had gradually regained the urge to sing and was heavily involved in this project of covers of the Brel repertoire, with even a tour scheduled in 2019. The day before her death, she went back on stage in Brussels, where she told herself happy to have finally found his voice. "It's been three days that I recapture," she confided in front of RTBF cameras. It's a kind of rebirth because I admit to you that I really believed, for almost a year, that I would not sing again. (…) It's a turn for a ride, as they say … "

On May 7, 2018, she was found dead at home, just 57 years old. It was known that the Belgian singer suffered from recurring problems on the back and that she was under treatment, with side effects, as stated by its artistic director. The track of the heart attack was then mentioned, some rumors even speak of a possible suicide, but the floor of Brussels revealed last June that the artist had died of an "accidental cause", without going into details. Asked about the circumstances of the death of his mother, Lou Villafranca also refused to spread more on the subject. "I do not want to say more. She made a fall. Media or even artists have said that it could be suicide, it is not the case at all. I was very sad that we are considering this. She came back on stage, she was listening … It was absurd to say that. "
