Mondial-2018: incidents on the sidelines of festive gatherings in Paris and in the regions

Several incidents between law enforcement and "thieves" "broke out Sunday in Paris and in the province on the sidelines of the festive gatherings celebrating the French victory at the World Cup football, reported AFP journalists and security sources.

In Lyon, in the city of the Minister of the Interior, the atmosphere degenerated in the early evening around Place Bellecour where some 20,000 people had come to watch the final on a giant screen. Scuffles caused crowd movements, fumes annoying people in the audience. Sporadic incidents continued between police and small groups of "breakers" in some very localized places of the city center.

In Marseille, several incidents broke out, notably around the Old Port and the fan zone . "There were numerous projectiles, two members of the security forces were wounded, and 10 people were arrested," a police spokesman said. Shortly before 11 pm, the situation was calm again.

In Ajaccio, some clashes erupted after the final whistle between supporters of the French team who were celebrating the victory, and people claiming to support Croatia, reported firefighters and prefecture services to the AFP. There were no casualties.

In Strasbourg or Rouen, sporadic clashes broke out between young people and police who exchanged projectiles and tear gas. Seven people were arrested in the capital of the Seine Maritime, reported the prefecture.

The victory of the Blues was also bereaved by several fatal accidents. In Annecy, a man in his fifties killed himself by diving into a cbad, in a shallow depth of water. In Saint-Félix (Oise), a man who was partying while driving, died after having built his car in a plane tree. Three children, aged 3 and 6, were also seriously injured after being struck by a motorcycle in Frouard (Meurthe-et-Moselle).

"We call each to be fully responsible for his safety and that of others so that the party is beautiful to the end, "said the AFP, the spokesman for the Minister of the Interior.
