Clbad A with a trunk was developed in priority for China, where sedans are still successful. In Europe, in the compact segment, they have few followers. But Mercedes obviously does not want to miss any potential customer and will therefore market well at home this variant of Clbad A, taking the risk of hindering the career of the next CLA.
Difference with the model presented in Spring in China: a few centimeters shorter in length. The European version stretches 4.55 meters, six centimeters lost. It is more precisely the wheelbase that differs, since here we find that of the 5-door variant, at 2.73 meters. Note that the C-Clbad measures 4.69 meters.
To distinguish itself from the CLA, the clbad A sedan highlights its best access at the bench and especially a preserved habitability, with 944 mm of roof guard at the back. Compared to the A3 Saloon, it's 20 mm better. The trunk announces a capacity of 420 liters, 50 liters more than the 5 doors. This remains an average value for such a template.
Design side, no bad surprise. The trunk is very well integrated in the silhouette of the Clbad A. The front is obviously identical to the hatchback version, with calender and lowered sharp look. At the back, the lights go off the license plate and widen towards the wings.
We find the very successful board clbad A, with its double screen in a row (7 or 10.25 inches depending on the finish). With large screens and ambient lighting, we believe in a higher category. This also applies to the equipment, provided of course to put the hand in the wallet. The car can under certain conditions ride in semi-automated mode. Adaptive cruise control uses GPS to anticipate turns, intersections or roundabouts. Clbad A can receive Matrix headlights, whose beam varies constantly. Its multimedia system is able to react to orders.
At launch, only two versions are on the program. For gasoline, it will be the A200 with 163 hp engine. For diesel, it will be the A180d of 116 hp only. These blocks are automatically coupled to a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox. Other variants will follow, including 4MATIC models.
Presented at the Paris Motor Show, the Clbad A sedan will be in the concessions at the end of the year.
