New Renault Megane RS Trophy: 300 horsepower under the hood!

[ad_1]

A few months after the RS version, Renault unveils its Mégane RS Trophy. The car wins 20 horses and places the wise sedan diamond in the category of true sports. There remains the competition, which is becoming increasingly tough on this niche.

300 horses under the hood of a sedan of a generalist manufacturer, it is rare enough to be noted. To properly measure the power of this Mégane RS Trophy, know that it is similar to that developed by the Porsche Cayman 718! Since the very first generation of Mégane RS, an even more muscular version called Trophy was added to the offer. It is now done on this 2018-2019 vintage of the sedan. The machine inaugurates a new version of the 1.8-liter turbo engine, which gains 20 horsepower over the "single" RS version. On the torque side, the Mégane RS Trophy reaches 420 Nm thanks to the improvement of the turbocharger and the exhaust system. You can choose between a manual gearbox or an automatic gearbox, called EDC.

This Mégane RS Trophy is equipped with Renault Sport technology for ground connections, called 4CONTROL. In concrete terms, this offers the vehicle four steering wheels and shock absorbers with hydraulic compression stops. To avoid bending the sedan, the new Megane RS Trophy is equipped with the Cup chbadis as standard, which is characterized by firm suspensions. To complete the picture, dual-disc front disc brakes, special 19 '' rims and high-performance Bridgestone tires have been added.

To promote this brand new model, Renault called on Renault Sport Formula One Team driver Nico Hulkenberg, who won the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He can not say enough good things about this new Mégane RS Trophy. "It is obviously positive to have more power, to have a better grip (grip, Ed) thanks to the tires and to be able to count on a higher braking endurance. I also enjoyed the feeling of the new seats: the maintenance for sporting use is excellent, "explains the German driver.

The story of the Mégane RS

The first Mégane RS Trophy appears in 2005, nine months after the release of the RS version. Already, at the time, the chbadis had been modified and the car had lighter wheels, steeper springs, specific shock absorbers and a disconnectable ESP. The Mégane III RS is available as a Trophy version from 2011. Based on the Cup chbadis, it benefits from an evolution of the engine, which goes from 250 to 265 horses. Its performance makes it the fastest traction on the market at the time. It also sets a record in its category on the Nürburgring circuit.

Beware of the competition!

It's not just about success on the track, you have to be able to sell such machines! Because the competition is harder than in the past. From now on, the diamond company will also have to deal with the presence in this market segment of the Hyundai i30 N, the Peugeot 308 GTi or the Seat Leon ST Cupra. Still, these models are a little lower on the performance side.

The only sedan of a generalist manufacturer in a sport version that can seriously compete with this new Mégane RS Trophy remains the Ford Focus RS. The sportswoman oval develops 350 horses for 470 Nm of torque. This is much better than the French with a premium look even more racy, some say.

Price side, Renault has not yet unveiled the price, but it will be difficult to propose below the price of the Ford Focus RS, available from 40.200 euros. As a reminder, the RS version "simple" is already at 37.600 euros minimum!
