Two men and a woman were caught committing theft on July 28th. A mischief prepared, since it seems that one of the men went to the aquarium a month before, pretending to be one of the salt suppliers of the aquarium, and asking to test the water basins.

Chronology of Events

After an hour of procrastination, one of the men grabbed the 45-cm fish by the tail and headed, with his accomplice, to a room reserved for employees. Having nothing to transport the animal, they emptied the contents of a bucket … In the system of filtration of the basins. Unfortunately, it was bleach.

Once the shark was in the bucket, they put it in their stroller and headed for the exit. While one of the thieves was at her car, an aquarium employee asked to search the vehicle. The man refused, and left immediately … Abandoning the woman and her baby behind him!

Two days later, the police and Jamie Shank, an employee of the aquarium, went to the thieves' home. They discovered a huge pool, where was the shark, Miss Helen, formally identified by the employee.

The thief, an enthusiast of marine life, said he had never wanted to sell the shark, but simply add it to his collection.

A flight that could have been catastrophic

The aquarium employees quickly realized that bleach had been emptied into the filtration system. They were able to intervene in time so that the fish would not be injured. "If they realized a few minutes later, many of these animals could have died," said San Antonio Aquarium Director Ammon Covin.
