This is the big surprise of this summer mercato: Orlando Sa is back to Standard less than five months after leaving for the Chinese club Henan Jianye.
As a reminder, on February 28, Orlando Sa took leave of the Standard to join China against a check of 8 million euros of which Standard would reach 6.4 million. The case was juicy, both for the club that had acquired Orlando Sa free, and for the player who signed a two-year contract at 3.2 million euros net season!
But the idyll quickly turned short for the 30-year-old Portuguese. Orlando Sa has never managed to acclimatize to Chinese life. After only a few weeks in Zhengzhou, his hometown where he stayed at the hotel far from his wife and two children, the Portuguese wanted to leave. Faced with the language barrier (his teammates do not speak English), Orlando Sa felt even more lonely.
Sportsmanically, the level was execrable and Orlando Sa sometimes had to perform and train on unworthy grounds. In China, the striker finally played only five games, scoring a small goal and missing several matches on injury.
During his short Chinese adventure, the striker has always kept in touch with Olivier Renard that he has held in high esteem. When the latter became aware of the feasibility of returning the Portuguese striker to Sclessin, he did everything in a few days to make this transfer a reality.
And it's finally a golden coup, even the break of the century since Orlando Sa returns to Standard as he landed in 2016: totally free. Realizing his situation, the Portuguese asked to break his contract, making a cross over several million euros, to return to Sclessin he considers his second home. Henan Jianye agreed on the condition to recruit another attacker, cheaper, what he did with the Brazilian Fernando Karanga.
Orlando Sa is expected in Liège this Friday and will be (re) presented early next week. Physically, he will probably need a little time to get back to his top level as the intensity in China was low. But Orlando Sa's willingness to shine again in the rush should help him get back into shape.
Edmilson Jr has almost signed in Qatar
This Thursday was the effervescence in the Liège offices. In addition to the return of Orlando Sa, Standard has almost recorded the departure of Edmilson Junior for Qatar! While several formations have marked their interest as Fiorentina and Real Sociedad, it is finally a formation of the championship of Qatar which was close, Thursday, to take the bet but at the last moment, the deal could not be realized fault agree between the clubs. Edmilson Junior remains, temporarily, Sclessin but other formations are still on the ranks and the Brazilian Belgo could well leave this summer while he has only one year contract.
