The death toll from the suicide bombing that hit an election rally in Mastung, southwest Pakistan, rose sharply to 85, provincial health minister Faiz Kakar said. A previous balance sheet reported 70 deaths. This is the second attack on Friday an election rally in Pakistan, where legislative elections are to be held on July 25 in an increasingly tense climate.

"The balance sheet rose to 85" dead, said M Kakar, who had previously reported a death toll of 70 dead and 120 wounded, including "15 to 20 in critical condition."

According to Aslam Tareen, head of the civil defense of Baluchistan province, the suicide bomber was about 8 to 10 kg explosives and metal balls

The attack occurred in Mastung, about 40 km from the capital of Baluchistan, Quetta.

The explosion took place in a complex where a political rally was taking place.

Agha Umar Bungalzai, Minister of the Interior of Baluchistan Province, reported a rally by the late politician Mir Siraj Raisani

More early in the day, a bomb hidden on a motorcycle had exploded near B annu (north-west) to the convoy of another candidate in the elections, killing four people and wounding forty others, according to the police

The politician, Akram Khan Durrani, representative of A coalition of religious parties, the MMA, survived the attack.

A suicide bombing claimed by the Pakistani Taliban also targeted Tuesday night an election meeting of the Awami National Party (ANP) in Peshawar (northwest) , killing 22 people including local politician Haroon Bilour, according to a new record.

The army said earlier this week predict the deployment of more than 370,000 men to ensure security on July 25, day of the vote.
