The console of Sony continues to sell well, so much so that the figures do not decrease almost a year. Thus, between April 1 and June 30, 2018, 3.2 million PS4 were sold. In the same period in 2017, Sony had sold 3.3 million consoles.
All these good numbers push the company to review its forecasts. Sony hopes to sell 17 million consoles during the fiscal year (April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019), one million more than expected. In total, more than 82.2 million PlayStation 4 have been marketed worldwide. A figure that brings a little closer console sales figures of the PlayStation 3, sold 86.9 million copies.
Knowing that the PlayStation 5 is not expected before 2020, this leaves time for Sony to exceed the PS3, without hoping to reach the sales figures of the PlayStation 2 or the original PlayStation. These two consoles had been sold respectively to 157.68 million and 104.25 million copies.
One thing is sure is that Sony is far ahead of Microsoft, who wades with his Xbox One. By the end of 2017, the estimated sales of this third Xbox were only 31 million units. The Japanese firm even exceeds the Switch Nintendo, which attracted 1.88 million new players in the last quarter.
Sales of the PlayStation 4 are expected to reach 96 million units by the end of March 2019.
