The communal authority has decided to provide wi-fi seven places heavily frequented by Hutus.

A high-density public wi-fi is available since Thursday in Huy. Hutois can access it easily and for free. The communal authority has indeed decided to provide wi-fi seven places heavily attended by Hutus, especially by young people or tourists. The City's website is also multilingual for them.

The first phase of antenna installation is complete. In five of the seven locations, the antennas are already installed and functioning. The first sites covered by this public wi-fi are the Grand-Place, the Place Verte, the Récollets Park, Henrion Square and the Fort (terrace and inner courtyard).

"The goal is to allocate a bandwidth of 1MBit per second per user out of the peaks of affluence, more than enough to follow his social networks, send photos, view e-mail, surf the Internet and even watching a video clip in streaming specifies the City of Huy The roaming of the wi-fi also allows the smartphone to move seamlessly from one site to another, where it will be automatically recognized.

On the Grand'Place, as in other gathering places, the City's IT department has chosen to allow up to 500 people to connect simultaneously while maintaining a reasonable surf speed.

Two new antennas in September

The second phase of installation will be carried out at the beginning of September. Two additional antennas will be installed: one place Saint-Séverin and the other in front of the collegiate church Notre-Dame and Saint-Domitien. The various places chosen by the communal authority in consultation with the services of the City are busy places.

The single cost of the deployment of this public wi-fi is 20,000 euros. It is not excluded that other sites are also equipped. Note that the City of Huy has chosen a wi-fi public without advertising.
