The actor of "Taxi Driver" would be in negotiations for a role in the movie dedicated to the super-villain of DC Comics, which will be played by Joaquin Phoenix.

Robert de Niro is in discussion to interpret the role of a television host who occupies an important place in the youth of the main character embodied by Joaquin Phoenix in the movie "Joker", as reported by Deadline. If the contract is signed, it will be his first film from a comic book.

After months of speculation, the bosses of the studio at Warner Bros. announced last month that Joaquin Phoenix will embody the villain and Batman's nemesis in the feature film, following in the footsteps of Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger and Jared Leto. Todd Phillips, the man behind "The Hangover", is in charge of directing from a script he co-authored with Scott Silver.

By the way, Zazie Beetz should embody a single mother who draws the Joker's attention before he becomes Batman's enemy in the project, while The Wrap reports that Frances Conroy would also be in talks to embody the Joker's mother.

No other details regarding casting has been revealed, although filming begins in New York in September. The release of the film is scheduled for October 2019.

For its part, De Niro was recently seen on screen in "Dirty Papy" and "The Comedian". He finished production of "The War with Grandpa", a family film with Uma Thurman and Jane Seymour, and he is also working on the upcoming Scorsese, "The Irishman", about a mafia hitman who remembers its possible link with the murder of Jimmy Hoffa

"The Irishman", with Al Pacino and Bobby Cannavale, is expected at the cinema in 2019.
