The Kona diesel is offered in two-wheel drive 115 hp from 23 500 € in Intuitive finish, which represents an additional cost of 2 100 € compared to 1.0 T -GDi 120 gasoline in the same finish. A significant price difference but in line with what is done at Renault, where the Captur 1.5 dCi 110 hp is proposed to € 25,200 Intens finish, or € 2,800 more than the version 1.2 TCe 120 hp. We had the opportunity to try the new diesel 1.6 CRDi in a 115 hp two-wheel drive version. A model that does not shine by its lightness: with nearly 1,400 kg on the scale, it weighs nearly 200 kg more than a Renault Captur 1.5 dCi 110 or a Peugeot 2008 1.6 BlueHDi 120 hp. A problem common to all productions of the Hyundai-Kia group of the moment and which is felt immediately at the driving. Despite the acclaimed acceleration figures announced by the manufacturer, this Kona still seems to lack punch and appreciates only stabilized stages on road or highway. The mbad clearly accentuates the feeling of hollow at low speed and the lack of covers. Sensations that we did not feel at all on the 136 hp model with the DCT box and 4×4 transmission. It seemed much more dynamic and the difference of 21 hp between the two versions is even more convincing at the wheel.
Compared to its predecessor, the new 1.6 CRDi is characterized by a much more silent operation and a less brutal and rough operation . Good news, which is accompanied by a moderate appetite at steady speed: on highway, it is possible to go under 5.8 l. However when driving is more dynamic, the figure can easily exceed 7 l, again an effect of the excessive mbad of Kona. For the rest, this little SUV appears true to itself, with an unusually dynamic chbadis tuning for a Korean model. The result is a rather firm comfort but a good level of agility for such a model.

The Kona diesel has to face a particularly fierce competition in particular from the small French SUV. The Renault Captur diesel already mentioned, argues its greater modularity and finishing better bill but does not offer such a generous standard equipment, even Intens premium finish. The Peugeot 2008, at the end of its career, has just received the new 1.5 BlueHDi 120 hp. He also less well equipped in finish Allure billed € 25,000, it is much more dynamic but a little less habitable than the Hyundai.
Finally, the most recent French urban SUV, the Citroën C3 AirCross 1.5 BlueHDi Shine, is offered at a higher price than the Kona (€ 25,850) but is both more flexible and comfortable despite its standard equipment more chick. Finally, the competition also comes from within for Korean as Kia offers its Stonic diesel version which has also received the new block 1.6 CRDi. The Hyundai-Kia Group's new 1.6 CRDi engine marks significant progress over the two blocks it replaces , both in terms of pleasure and sobriety. However, he does not perform a miracle and his 115hp version really seems too fair for the heavy Kona. Given its significant additional cost, its choice is only justified for those who intend to ride a lot. If the small Korean SUV achieves a good commercial performance in Europe, it does not appear as adapted to the French market as the other models of the manufacturer.
