Since the switch to the GT3 in 2011, the success of the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps has not stopped. The flagship event of the Blancpain Endurance Cup continues to attract the most prestigious manufacturers and this edition is no exception to the rule.
Audi, Mercedes, Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin, BMW, Lamborghini, Bentley, Nissan, McLaren or Lexus can indeed claim the final victory!
Of the sixty-three teams entered, a good twenty seem able to win and thus succeed the trio Haase / Gounon / Winkelhock (All-Fra-All), winner last year on an Audi R8 of the French team Saintéloc
The 2017 edition had been very indecisive, with six cars finishing in the leader's lap. Never seen !
And everything seems to indicate that the scenario could be repeated in view of the announced plateau. In addition to the GT's references, the presence of former F1 drivers, including Rubens Barrichello, who will make his debut at the 24 Hours, DTM and the winners of the 24 Hours of Le Mans
Two free practice sessions will take place in the day of Thursday.
The qualifiers will be held in the early evening just before the night practice session.
The twenty fastest teams in qualifying will return to the track on Friday night to play the Super Pole.
The start of the 24 Hours will be Saturday on the stroke of 16:30.
Belgians ready to play a role in the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps!
Sixteen of our compatriots will participate in the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps this weekend. And many of them can claim the top step of the podium. Even if they are not as present as a few years ago, the Belgian pilots are still part of the sure values of the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.
This year again, many of them are favorites. Especially the last Belgian winner, Maxime Martin. Victorious in 2016 with BMW, he moved to Aston Martin this winter. Often well placed, Maxime Soulet hopes to hang his first win with Bentley. A hope shared by the two official drivers Audi Dries Vanthoor and Frédéric Vervisch. Finally, Laurens Vanthoor, the big brother of Dries, hopes to allow Porsche to hang its first success in the Ardennes since 2010.
Note also the presence of local Bertrand Baguette, who will take charge of the baptism of fire of the Honda NSX GT3 at the 24 Hours and could play a role in Pro-Am if reliability is at the rendezvous. A category where Louis Machiels (Ferrari) is clearly among the favorites. There will also be the only 100% Belgian team composed of Tim Verbergt, Koen Wauters, Sam Dejonghe and Nicolas Van Dierendonck, on the Brussels Racing Aston Martin.
Finally, Bernard Delhez (Lamborghini) and Christian Kelders (Audi ) will be part of the Am Cup. Sarah Bovy (Lamborghini) returns to the National Group. A category where Pierre-Yves Pâque and Grégory Paisse (Porsche) will try to renew their success of 2017.
