The world of comics is in mourning. We learned this Thursday the death of the cartoonist Clovis, Claude Viseur of his real name. The Quaregnonnais died at the Saint Joseph Hospital in Mons. He was 72 years old.
In more than forty years of sketching, Clovis had become the reference in car design. It was at Belvision, the cartoon studio of the Lombard editions that he began his career. By working on "Asterix and Cleopatra", "Tintin and the Temple of the Sun" or "Tintin and Shark Lake".
But this car enthusiast very quickly (1974) was recruited by Jean Graton, the father of Michel Vaillant, with whom he really made his debut. Jean Graton was a demanding boss. No question of omitting the slightest detail. This is what, in addition to a brilliant scenario and endearing characters, made the success of the series. "I never had a sports car. If I lift the hood of a car, I do not understand it. In fact, I was never tempted by the car as an object, " confessed Clovis in an interview he gave us in 2011, during a major exhibition organized by the Cultural House of Quaregnon
In 1981, Claude Viseur left the Graton studio to stand on his own. Since then, he never left his drawing table in his house Quaregnon, except to deliver his works, see his printer or participate in exhibitions, conferences or visits to the salon.
It is possible to pay a last tribute to Claude Viseur at the funeral center Coton-Hanot in Quaregnon, these Friday and Monday from 17h to 19h; this Saturday from 10h to 12h and this Sunday from 15h to 17h. The lifting of the body will take place this Tuesday at 10:30. The funeral will be held at 11 am in Saint-Quentin Church.
