Nearly 100 bands were on the festival poster for this 2018 edition on the four stages of the festival.

J Amais as many groups had occurred at Rock Werchter before: this year they are 96, including 13 Belgians. Almost all of them sing and rap in English, but here and there are some lyrics in French. Those who want to listen to Dutch will turn to the hip-hop scene with Belgian Stikstof and Dutchman Sevn Alias.

A brother and a sister are celebrating their first participation in Werchter this year. The spectators will not find them on the same stage … Angele will perform on Saturday on The Barn, while Romeo Elvis will tread Sunday that of Klub C. For the record, their father, the singer Marka, opened the festival there. is 36 years old. He was then the bbad player of the "Allez Allez" band.

Four scenes and 109 nationalities

In its beginnings, the festival had only one scene. Twenty years later, a second podium (the "Pyramid Marquee" at the time) was installed, then a third in 2012 and finally a fourth. Called The Slope, it welcomes the young wolves of music. The youngest artist, the 18-year-old Belgian Emma Bale, has her place. At 66, David Byrne is the dean of the festival. He will perform on the last day on The Barn.

Rock Werchter will be able to count on festival-goers from 109 countries to ensure the atmosphere. The neighboring countries of Belgium are well represented but many Irish, Israeli, American and Swiss music lovers have also made the trip. The Flemish transport company De Lijn has already brought some 28,500 festival-goers to the site: 8,500 yesterday / Wednesday and 20,000 this Thursday.

So far, 40,000 earplugs have been distributed. The festival's 7,000 employees walk the site every day to remind the partygoers to drink plenty of water. And because they too must eat, 9,500 breads are planned for these workers.

New this year: buses provide a night connection to Brussels via Leuven. The service must however be booked in advance. Park-and-rideparkings are also emerging: festival-goers can reach them by car and then cycle to Werchter.
