The former offers superior functional and storage capabilities. The second does not limit the number of users.
The announcement was expected. Microsoft kicked off a free version of its team messaging SaaS Teams app. Launched in early 2017 in response to Slack, the solution required so far to subscribe to Office 365 to be used, the minimum subscription to benefit (Office 365 Business Essentials) costing $ 5 per user per month. To counter the arrival of Microsoft on his playground, Slack could so far put forward its entry-level version, free. This competitive advantage is over.
It remains to compare the free edition of Teams with that of Slack. Targeting SMEs, the new version of Teams will manage only 300 users, against an unlimited number Slack side. Admittedly, it also offers a much smaller library of third-party applications (about 140, where Slack claims more than 1,500). But beyond these two caveats, the firm of Redmond advance arguments club against his competitor: history of messages infinite, up to 600 GB of storage, support of video calls and group audio, not to mention a possible hosting of data in Europe
An element allows Slack to retain an badet, and not least: its simplicity of use. Where Teams has seen its standard functionality grow since its release (more intimate integration of Office, merger with Skype for Business, etc.) at the risk of ending up with overloaded graphical interfaces, the San Francisco company continues to privilege screens stripped, leaving the care to its partners publishers to enrich its environment of extensions that the users can, or not, install according to their needs.
