Faced with the emergence of ephemeral stores in the capital, Brussels deputies Marion Lemesre and Olivier de Clippele (MR) proposed in July 2017 an order to create a short-term commercial rental offer in the Brussels Region. This has been adapted and should soon be pbaded.
No legal framework concerning short-term commercial leases currently exists in the Brussels Region. And to make up for this lack, Brussels MEP and Minister of Commerce Marion Lemesre and Brussels MP Olivier de Clippele (MR) have proposed a text to allow shorter commercial leases, ranging from one month to one year . Currently, only leases from three to nine years can indeed be accepted.
To allow pop-up stores to settle legally in the Brussels Region, this proposal for an ordinance has undergone some changes since his testimony in July 2017 explains La Capitale. Taken over by the Brussels Minister of the Economy Didier Gosuin (DéFI), the text has seen modifications to the rental guarantee and the inventory of fixtures in particular. In particular, it will be possible to combine several short-term leases as long as they do not exceed a maximum of one year. "The text should be voted by the end of the year" says Didier Gosuin.
