Two days before the start of the Tour de Wallonie, the 52nd Grand Prix Cerami (1.1) will give the professional peloton the opportunity to kick off the second part of the Belgian cycling season on Thursday.
The Cerami GP will be played between Saint-Ghislain and Frameries under intense heat. Forecasters predict temperatures of 36-37 degrees on the roads of the semi-clbadic hennuyère, 202.3 kilometers long.
The riders will leave the Place Albert-Elisabeth, opposite the Saint-Ghislain station, to go towards the west and the Country of Hills where will be proposed the main difficulties of the test before the traditional pbadage by the Wall of Grammont. The riders will then return to the Boraine region and the local circuit around Frameries, 13.8 kilometers long to travel three times.
Twenty-five teams, including seven from the World Tour, will participate in the 2018 Cerami Grand Prix. The main riders involved include, among others, Jurgen Roelandts and Dylan Teuns (BMC), Sam Bennet (Bora), Scott Davies (Dimension Data), Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek-Segafredo), Baptiste Planckaert (Katusha) and Samuel Dumoulin (AG2R). ), Jens Debusschere and Jelle Walleys, winner of the event in 2016 (Lotto-Soudal) and the Frenchman Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis), who will make his return before the Tour de Pologne.
The event pays tribute to the memory of Pino Cerami, among others the winner of Paris-Roubaix in 1960, died in 2014 at the age of 92.
The race, once held in spring, in the heart of the period of the clbadics, has taken place since 2015 in July in the international calendar, some days before the start of the Tour de Wallonie. Since then, the Belgians have trumped victories with Philippe Gilbert in 2015, Jelle Wallays in 2016 and cyclocross world champion Wout Van Aert, who, in 2017, had settled the sprint against Luxembourger Jempy Drucker and Belgian Dries Devenyns.
