The unemployment rate in the United States rose to 4% in June against 3.8% the previous month, but hiring remained solid, according to figures from the Department of Labor published Friday.
The creations of jobs were stronger than expected at 213,000 while badysts expected 195,000. The labor department has also revised up job creations for the month of May to 244,000 against 223,000 initially estimated.
The average hourly wage, particularly watched as the Fed fears an acceleration of inflation, has increased by only 0.2% to 26.98 dollars bringing the increase over one year to 2.7%.
The number of unemployed increased from 499,000 people in June to 6.6 million. The unemployment rate, however, remains lower than it was a year earlier (4.3%) and the number of unemployed who fell by 400,000 people.
The labor force increased in June by 601,000 people and the participation rate increased by 0.2 percentage points to 62.9%.
