The Weeknd, everything is forgiven

QUÉBEC – The Weeknd canceled his show at the Videotron Center last year at a few hours notice, on the grounds that he was suffering from "food poisoning". He is now forgiven, if we believe the thousands of fans present to see him on the Plains of Abraham.

The Canadian was treated to a warm welcome, since he was none other than the headliner of the opening night of the Quebec City Summer Festival. He started in force with Pray For Me, Starboy and Party Monster. Alone on the stage with a few musicians, he chained his success without stopping – except for a few "Québeeeec!" Here and there.

The crowd shrieked as they heard the first notes of Earned It that marked the spirits in the film Fifty Shades of Gray . It was all the more conquered by a Call Out My Name acoustic, played only on the piano.

But The Weeknd was definitely forgiven with its fiery finale – literally. Flames sprang from the scene during the chorus of The Hills to close a fiery performance!

This year, the pit was reserved for the general public who was happy to fill it . Last year, the VIP section – which occupied half of the stage and moved a lot less – was criticized by rapper Kendrick Lamar, among others.

The heat got the better of some festival-goers who were arrived as soon as the doors were opened. The HuffPost sighted about 20 people, some of them in stretcher, who left the enclosure due to the overwhelming temperature. Fortunately, the security guards distributed bottles of water to all who asked for it.

Brockhampton

The band members, all in their early twenties, met on a Kanye West fan forum. Despite the suffocating heat – their white sweaters were soaked in sweat – they kept moving. One of the members even lost his microphone!

Rippling between R & B, hip-hop and pop, the guys from Brockhampton breathed a lot of energy into the crowd. If ignored early in their performance, the audience quickly adopted them. Once gone, festival-goers shouted their names in vain. (They did not come back on stage for a reminder.)

Chromeo

In front of the chromed instruments and the electro-pop beat: Dave 1 and P-Thugg did not need an introduction. Even though they sing in English, the duo spoke to the crowd in both languages ​​("We're from Montreal," said Dave 1, or David Macklovitch's real name.)

After Juice, P -Thugg – or Patrick Gemayel – tried to shout the crowd on the plains a few times. Was he satisfied? "Not 100%," he replied with his voice in auto-tune . It must be said that the interventions of Dave 1 in English had somewhat cooled the ardor of the public. It was only at the end of the performance, with the successes Fancy Footwork and Jealous that the crowd became a little more lively. It must be said that the last album of Chromeo, Head Over Heels has just been released and is perhaps more unknown … Note however the fabulous human pyramids of the public during Over Your Shoulder

After their show on the Plains, Dave 1 and P-Thugg had the festivalgoers dance on the after-party DJ set at the heart of the FEQ. We hope they had a little more energy then!
