One day before the Belgian national holiday, the Statec draws a portrait of the Belgian community of the Grand Duchy.
They are 20,212, or 3.4% of the total population. A number that keeps increasing for several years. Since 2011, the number of Belgians has increased by 20%, reports the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The Belgians also represent the fourth largest foreign community in the country.
The average age of Belgians higher than that of Luxembourgers
The Belgian resident is generally a man of 42 years and a half, living in a commune close to the border with his country, like Winseler or Weiswampach.
The Statec notes that the average age of members of this community is higher than that of foreigners living in Luxembourg (37 years), but also of Luxembourgish (41.6 years)
The Institute also reports that more than 2,000 Belgians have applied for and obtained Luxembourg nationality between 2010 and 2017.
