French actor and producer Frédéric Diefenthal took on the role of the French-speaking herald, narrator of the story, and singer Anny Cordy as godmother of the event. Celebrations will also be organized on the occasion of the event from Wednesday to Sunday in the Royal Park.
The procession, 2 km long and composed of 700 extras, started at 8:40 pm from the Royal Park. He joined the Grand Place, pbading by the Sablon. The 2,000 seats were filled and just as many people watched the show standing behind the security gates. It lasted two hours. It was animated by 47 folk groups and 1,400 participants.
It began with the entry of caricaturist Pierre Kroll, whose drawings sketched on the spot were this year broadcast live on the giant screen. Anny Cordy followed him. On the occasion of her 90th birthday, she declared to have made her first steps and her artistic debut in Brussels. Jo Lemaire took care of the Dutch version and comedian Bert Kruismans of the English version.
Flags of flags marked the beginning of the show, punctuated by the parade of riders, waders and eight giants, including the famous dragon St. George, a length of 4m25. A release of doves also took place. Games of light have illuminated the facades of the buildings of the Grand-Place with the colors of the music. Some big drops of rain accompanied the closing of the show and quickly flee the spectators still present.
The evening finally ended shortly after 23:00 with a firework display. The Brussels park will host the traditional equestrian games until Saturday. Knight fights, fencing demonstration, shooting competition and crossbow shooting will be on the program.
A large Renaissance market will be held from noon to 9 pm in the Brussels Park as well as behind the Stock Exchange. Finally, a terrace will be set up in the park so that the public can extend the festivities until 02:00 in the morning.
