Towards an iPhone more resistant to water and pressure

Patent in support, Apple continues to work on the resistance of its devices

A patent has been filed this week by Apple. It shows a willingness of the brand to work on the tightness of its phones. The patent describes " an electronic device having a composite acoustic membrane for preventing water entry and for transmitting sound ".

The patent discloses the presence of a acoustic membrane that will include a porous region and a non-porous region. While the porous region will evacuate the sound and protect the electronic components, the non-porous region will be able to isolate the acoustic orifice.

The porous membrane will allow an air exchange between the different parts of the device, which can be useful in cases where atmospheric pressure varies, such as changes in altitude. The new phones could therefore also be particularly good for the mountain.

If currently the iPhone X is IP67 certified (that is, it resists splashing, water, and dust ), Apple also filed a patent last month regarding the waterproofness of the Lightning port. A new type of seal should prevent the infiltration of liquid into the iPad and iPhone.
