A truck wrecked five cars and another truck waiting at a red light

A serious accident occurred on the E34 Tuesday around 11:15 in Maldegem, East Flanders. A truck stamped the vehicles parked at the red light, five cars and another truck. The heavyweight towing a trailer carrying a bulldozer stamped the vehicles that were stationary. In the first car hit, the four pbadengers, members of the same family, lost their lives. Several wounded have been taken to the hospital and others are in a state of shock.

The truck driver

was detained, said the prosecutor's office of East Flanders. The driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The reason the truck did not stop in time is not known yet. The truck driver, a 27-year-old man from Lokeren, was tested negatively for alcohol and drugs. The public prosecutor's office withdrew his driver's license for 15 days and was deprived of his liberty.

Apparently the truck landed partially above the vehicle at the back of the line. The four pbadengers did not survive. They are two women: a thirty-year-old woman and her mother, who is 60 years old. The other two victims are two children, aged 3.

Two other people were slightly injured and taken to hospital. The other victims were in shock and were treated on the spot.

Although the emergency services intervened en mbade, the medical disaster plan was not triggered. The prosecution has appointed a traffic expert to examine the causes of the accident.
