Just before its official presentation, a supplier unveils the engines of the future Toyota Supra. The Japanese will offer German engines of 265 and 340 hp.
It's been several months since we heard about the new Toyota Supra. This weekend, when Goodwood Festival of Speed we even had the chance to see (camouflaged) for the first time. Although we had already learned that it would offer a 6-cylinder in line, like the new BMW Z4, this time a leaked document indicates that it will also be equipped with a 4-cylinder turbo.
A 4-cylinder turbo 265 hp
This document, which comes from ZF, the future supplier of the Supra's gearboxes, reveals that the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo will develop 265 hp. We even conclude, again via this document, that this engine (B48B20) will be directly supplied by BMW. So truth or fake news ? Well, it's vried, since the news was confirmed by Testsuya Tada, the chief engineer of this new Toyota Supra!
A 6-cylinder in-line of 340 hp [19659004] Still according to this same document, this 6-cylinder of 3.0 liters will also be a BMW engine (B58B30). The references of the new BMW Z4 and the new Toyota Supra are also the same. The only difference with the Japanese, the German will have in addition to another 4-cylinder 184 hp. But also another 6 cylinder 381 hp (see document below)
A Toyota Supra more German than Japanese …
Testsuya Tada also said at Goodwood Festival of Speed that adding a 4-cylinder in the catalog would make the new Toyota Supra lighter. The distribution of the mbades would only be improved … It also adds, and it makes us smile: "if owners have the idea to swap their Supra with a 2JZ, they buy the 4-cylinder version, it will be less expensive ".
But joking aside, the advantage of its appearance at Goodwood is that we were able to observe it more closely. After these engines, it is its brakes that also come from the new BMW Z4. In addition, the calipers also come from the German manufacturer, since they are found on the current series 5. Series 5 which also uses the B48 and B58 engines … Finally, the German 8-speed gearbox, will be available on both engines of the Toyota Supra
