Minister of Road Safety Carlo Di Antonio announced the news on Tuesday.
The roads of La Louvière will soon be equipped with two new fixed speed cameras. The first at the Chaussée de Mons (N27), the second at the rue de l'Olive (N536). These two installations are part of the plan of the Walloon Minister Carlo Di Antonio (cdH) who announced that eleven additional radars will soon be installed in Wallonia.
As elsewhere, these two locations in La Louvière were chosen after consulting all the police zones that submitted various proposals. " There is no question of surprising users by these controls but to secure the premises", says the Minister of Mobility.
These fixed speed cameras are systematically announced and reported. The wish is to warn the users that they are likely to be controlled in these places which are sensitive areas of the road network in terms of road safety.
In total, since March, 31 new boxes including 4 to height of red lights were installed in Wallonia. Others will follow in the coming months. A necessity ? The numbers speak for themselves. Offenses relating to speeding have increased in Wallonia by 7.5% between 2016 and 2017, from 779,623 in 2016 to 837,885 in 2017.
