The reduction of agricultural subsidies proposed for Belgium during the next EU financial programming was badyzed by the south of the country.
In current prices, the Walloon envelope will lose 174.5 million in direct aid and aid for rural development, while Flanders will lose 159.5 million. In constant prices, the south of the country will have to cross 450.9 million while the north will lose 405 million.
To support the sector, the Walloon minister-president, Willy Borsus (MR), imagines a "safety net that fights price fluctuations that are too important". It is essentially a kind of insurance for times when the price of a commodity falls below a certain threshold.
